One of the highlights of 2017-2018 academic years is to partner with the University of South-East Asia (USEA). Both partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in late 2017. This partnership allows PEPY staff and scholarship students to study at a highly recognized university with some discount rate from the university. PEPY is very delighted to cooperate with USEA and put a 100 percent trust as the school strongly believes in making constant improvement and partners with many recognized universities around the world to upgrade their standard of teaching and learning.
Approximately, there were 35 students and various staff and teacher representatives from both PEPY Empowering Youth and USEA. Dr. Mean Sothy, the Vice President, gave a brief history of the university and the summary of great achievements that the school has thrived to be an outstanding university, not just in Cambodia but with ASEAN countries. He left a very good impression for the students and PEPY feels good to recommend the students to study in the school. Mr. Rith Sarakk, PEPY Executive Director, was also given a chance to speak to the students and thank USEA for establishing very good relationship with PEPY. Although both institutions are very different, the common aim is to nurture young Cambodians to have bright future and lead Cambodia toward an equal, just and harmonious society. Mr. Sarakk also let the students at USEA know that they are more than welcome to research about NGOs sector and PEPY can become their research topic.
The partnership actually started a few years ago and we strengthen the partnership from time to time. Back to 2016, PEPY requested the school to host a group of PEPY scholarship students to learn about the school programs and the learning environment. After the presentation, the students had a chance to explore the campus, visiting computer laps, library and the American Corner which also open to public. The current PEPY scholarship students also had an opportunity to learn about the school when they first arrived in Siem Reap in late 2017. Many of the students were interested to study at USEA. They chose USEA as their nest to growth personally and professionally. They are now in their second year, majoring in Tourism, Laws and Information Technology. The education there has great impacts on the students. With just two years of education, they are able to find employment that can support them in their living cost and save for their future education.
