Our Dream Management Project’s Dream Class located at Lycée Kralanh has an impressive 235 registered students that are ready to pursue their dreams head on!
In the PEPY Empowering Youth Dream Classes, young people are provided with a forum to identify and discuss their ambitions for the future and any challenges they may need to overcome. The classes provide career resources, mentorship, and group workshops. Many of the students we work with are only exposed to a small range of possible opportunities because of the lack of resources and limited information available to them. We believe it’s important for young people to dream big and see how they can make their dreams a reality. Through our Dream Classes, we aim to nurture those big ambitions for their future and give them the resources and connections to take the necessary steps to realising a better future.
This school year’s Dream Class has had a good attendance record of 85% since opening its doors for the fourth time last November 2016. The students are expected to attend at least 4 sessions a month to be able to maximise the benefits from the training curriculum prepared for them. The first agenda of the year is the most important one, goal setting. Setting goals gives an individual a vision of what they want to achieve and the motivation to achieve it. This exercise gives the students the focus of how to acquire knowledge, organise their time and use available resources to make the very most of their lives. To support this first step, the students also go through workshops on building self-confidence, decision-making process and problem-solving skills. We are also happy to share that Lycée Kralanh has been very supportive of our Dream Management Project. They have provided us with a room for our Dream Classes with a space big enough for us to be able to set up a mini library. They have also been graciously collaborating with us when it comes to student and class schedules to enable the students to attend Dream Classes on a regular basis and has closely worked with us in organising and hosting events like this year’s Sharing Event.
This month, a Sharing Event is scheduled for our students. We’ve invited successful Cambodian professionals from different organisations and businesses to be inspirational speakers and share their life experience, their success story, the lessons learned and the rewards of hard work and dedication. We’ve lined up different activities for the next few months which include Dream Talk, a sort of mini version of the Sharing Event done once a month, regular home visits to keep the parents informed of the activities and its benefits and one-on-one counselling with the students. We’ve scheduled, at the end of the school year, our yearly Exposure Visit where our Dream Class students visit universities, vocational schools and businesses in the city of Siem Reap to help them decide what they need to prepare for the kind of future they have envisioned.
We would not have achieved this much and this far without your support and guidance. Thank you for allowing us to move forward to make PEPY Empowering Youth an effective organisation.
