Noun bookNoun worked with PEPY for many years as an energetic and passionate leader of our child clubs. We recently wrote about him here. In 2013, his contract ended at PEPY, and we’re proud to hear more good news on his recent success!
Earlier this year, Noun received a call from Room to Read, the international literacy organization, to inform him about an interesting opportunity to make children books for the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport. Noun was very happy to hear from them; he really loves writing books and has a natural creative streak. He immediately registered and a few days later he was informed that he was selected to be in the group and had the opportunity to attend 5 day workshop in Phnom Penh. Noun, bursting with excitement didn’t hesitate for a moment and got on to the night bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.
Noun workshop grpAt the workshop, Noun worked with a group of about 25 new people and teams were established to begin creating story books for young readers in school Grade 1. At the end of the week long workshop, the six groups had produced 25 different stories.
We’re pleased to announce that the stories have been approved to use in government schools across Cambodia by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport. It is very rare that the government put their logo on books, but after being so impressed with the quality of the books, they were proud to be associated!
Noun thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is looking forward to his next challenge of creating more masterpieces for Grade 2 students next!
