PEPY localizes and becomes PEPY Empowering Youth
Localization:
We are so excited to announce that in the New Year PEPY is registering as a local organization here in Cambodia. Currently PEPY is registered as a US 501(c)(3) NGO in the USA. As of the 1st of January 2015 for the first time we will be a fully registered Local NGO (LNGO).
This transition process from being a US registered 501c3 organization into being a solely Cambodian Registered LNGO offers us many new opportunities.
What is the new NGO’s name and Direction?
Since we began, PEPY has represented different acronyms, but it has always embodied our vision and mission of improving the lives of young people through quality education. Today, we are more than just what those letters stand for, PEPY is who we are: passionate, transparent, and open. Empowering Youth is what we do. We empower youth to pursue a bright future, improve the quality of their lives, and achieve their dream careers.
As of January 2015 PEPY will now be ‘PEPY Empowering Youth’. At the current time the three programs that PEPY is running (Dream Class , Scholarship Program and Learning Center) will remain unchanged.
Philosophy
Our philosophy remains very similar – with a focus on empowering youth through education. We are committed to transparency, honesty, sharing and collaborating.
Vision: Young Cambodians empowered to pursue careers to improve the quality of their lives.
Mission: Work with young Cambodians and connect them to the skills, opportunities and inspirations needed to reach their potential.
Goal: To increase the percentage of Kralanh graduates accessing skilled employment.
What about the US organization?
The US organization will remain open for as long as needed to execute the remaining funds, and to report on those funds. This length of time has not yet been determined – but it is likely to be open, but being ‘run down’ for the next couple of years. It will function to report on previously donated funds that are still being spent in Cambodia.
Other Changes:
There will be some small changes to our branding but the look and feel will remain the same. The domain name will change to pepyempoweringyouth.org with the site being similar in layout and design to this site. This current site will be used by the USA board from 2015.
Your funds and future funds
Donations made before January 2014 were spent by the current organization, PEPY, in the school year September 2013 – August 2014. Any donation made between January and December 2014, is allocated to be spent in the school year September 2014+, and will be spent and delivered by both PEPY and, as of January 2015, the new NGO ‘PEPY Empowering Youth’. All donations made after December 2014 will also be spent and delivered by ‘PEPY Empowering Youth’. As above PEPY Empowering Youth will run the same three programs as PEPY and as such your donations will be spent on delivering the same standard of support in these areas.
As PEPY Empowering Youth will be a LNGO and not registered in the USA we will be working with both CAF America and Maggie’s Fund (a public charity run by two of our major donors being used specifically to pass donations through to PEPY Empowering Youth) in order to ensure our US donors are still eligible for tax deductions. We will be transitioning out of using some of our old giving platforms and the US bank account and moving to use CAF, Maggie’s Fund and the Cambodian bank account much more. Donors who give through CDEF in the UK may continue to give in this method. More information on how to give to PEPY Empowering Youth will be on the ‘Support’ section of the new website as things progress.
What you can expect over the next few weeks:
There are lots of changes taking place for PEPY to become PEPY Empowering Youth. What you will mainly notice is changes in our branding across social media and on our website, along with some changes to the way in which we process donations – as above. Please bear with us as our new look takes shape and our new rebranded website goes live on its new URL!
In conclusion we hope you’re as excited as we are about this transition! We look forward to continuing to work with you, and would like to thank you so much for helping PEPY Empowering Youth become what it is today and into the future!
