DSC_0184The 2013-2014 academic year has started! In this ‘Back to School’ blog series, we bring you a sneak preview of what PEPY program officers have planned for the year ahead.
Dream Project Officer Kimsru manages PEPY’s Dream Classes. She provides a forum for Grade 9 and 12 students to discover their strengths and articulate their dreams. To empower these ambitious students to reach their goals, she teaches them personal effectiveness tools such as setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and other keys to success. We ask Kimsru about the coming year, her students, and her expectations.
What activities do you have planned for the year ahead?
“During regular sessions, I want students to do group work and read books on personal development and critical thinking. We will have two sharing sessions. We invite people who already got jobs, dream jobs that the students want – teacher, doctor, nurse – and share their experience. There will be a job skills fair in May or June. We plan to invite at least 20 or 30 companies or NGOs to share with students what kinds of jobs are available on the market. Also, we will have a fun trip to Siem Reap to visit PEPY office, the teacher school, and Angkor Wat to have fun together.”
Tell me more about your students.
“My students are smart. I love my students and my students love me. Some of them are very advanced. It is like they are already ready for SMART goals and 7 habits. Some students already have ideas. Some students are still discovering. Some students already have the confidence… so I just give them guidelines and they can do it. That is the good thing about my students. And for the Grade 9 students, some of them are shy but they are willing to learn and they are excited with what we are doing.”
What hopes do you have for your students?
“I hope they can learn what is in my class and apply in their real life. I hope they all pass their exams with good grades and become good people.”
Like Kimsru and her students, we are looking forward to an exciting year for Dream Class. To support our work, check out our all-new PEPY Presents, where you can see exactly how your investment will support the dreams of these students.
